We will also consider old workers' comp cases.
At Southwest Back Clinic, we follow a guideline to rehab your body after a workers' comp injury. After the doctor clears you to engage in physical activity again, you need to start at the very basic level of recovery and rehab services. Every muscle rehabs a different way. For our back rehab protocol, this means we need to understand what neutral posture is and how to brace effectively in this position.
Once we do this, we can begin to activate and strengthen again. Not only strengthen, but build muscular endurance. That is how we are going to lay the foundation and get back to normal movement; which ultimately means getting back into your regular activities.
As a workers' comp doctor, we will help to ensure a fast recovery. If you have suffered a workplace injury, you are entitled to workers' comp care. Common workplace injuries include a herniated disc from lifting a heavy object, an accidental slip and fall on a wet floor, repetitive stress injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, or chronic back pain due to long hours hunched over a computer. If you have sustained a workers' compensation injury, then prompt treatment is essential to helping the body heal and preventing chronic pain.
The earlier you seek diagnostic care, the more we can do to help prevent the build-up of scar tissue. However, it’s never too late to help the body heal. Whether you sustained your workers' compensation injury last week or last year, our wellness team is here to help.
Why We All Need Chiropractic Care!
At some point the majority of us experience neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) issues. Examples include:
We may not realize that what we do everyday can cause strain on our body. A less noticeable factor that can lead to NMS conditions is postural stress. Examples of postural stress include:
Postural stress is an important issue because it can affect and change your body physically. If a person sits at a computer desk all day, physically the following will occur:
Your muscles and ligaments can permanently change with long-term postural stress. Chiropractic can correct the areas of altered biomechanics through "adjusting" the subluxated/dysfunctional spinal and/or extremity joints.
Once your Chiropractor has restored proper joint mechanics, exercises and nutritional advice is commonly given. Chiropractic encompasses all aspects of the body and in order to obtain true health nutrition, exercise and a positive attitude must all be addressed.
Why Chiropractic Care Really Works!
The neurological link between the musculoskeletal system and our central nervous system are two groups of receptors call nociceptors and mechanoreceptors. Nociceptors are found everywhere in the body, especially in muscles, ligaments, and JOINTS. Nociceptors are microscopic nerve fibers that provide the brain information about an injury. The activation of nociceptors leads to the direct realization of PAIN. Therefore nociceptors are commonly called pain receptors. Examples of excessive nociceptor activation include:
On the other hand, mechanoreceptors or MOTION receptors do the opposite and block nociceptor activation. The chiropractic adjustment induces MOTION into subluxated/dysfunctional joints between two bones called vetebra. This induced MOTION is used to activate mechanoreceptors and restore normal joint motion and function. The restored function of the joint is the ultimate goal of the adjustment delivered by your chiropractor.
Our chiropractic services reduce back and neck pain.
What to Expect When Going to a Doctor of Chiropractic?
All chiropractors use a standard procedure of examination to diagnose a patient's condition and arrive at a course of treatment. Doctors of chiropractic use the same methods of consultation, case history, physical examination, laboratory analysis and x-ray examination as any other doctor.
In addition, they provide a skilled chiropractic structural examination, paying particular attention to the structure, alignment and motion of the spine. Soft tissue examinations may also be done looking for areas of scar tissue, trigger points, and muscle spasm.
Your treatment will be based on the nature of your condition and the information gained from all examinations. Treatment may vary slightly from Chiropractor to Chiropractor. Most treatments or rehab services will consist of one or more of the following: spinal/extremity "adjustments", stretches, soft tissue therapy, massage, therapeutic modalities (ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, heat, ice, etc.), nutritional counseling, neuromuscular re-education, and a variety of exercises.
In a nutshell:
Chiropractic sets the stage to make it possible for our body to achieve optimal function. We then need to incorporate the right nutrition to fuel our body, providing nutrients to allow our body to grow and develop. Performing the correct exercises will provide stability and support protecting our body from future wear and tear. Finally, having a positive attitude and healthy relationships will influence the mind-body connection, decreasing stress we have in our life. It all must start with LIVING with MOTION!!! What is Chiropractic? Chiropractic is concerned with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) conditions. The NMS system simply describes the direct connection between our nervous system (nerves) and the musculoskeletal system (muscles and bones). This connection is made through the spinal column, which is a serious of movable bones that begin at the base of your skull and end in the center of your hips. Thirty-one pairs of spinal nerves extend down the spine from the brain and exit through small openings of the spinal column. The nerves leave the spine and form a complicated network which influences every cell, tissue and organ in your body. Traditionally, chiropractic is based on the premise that a vertebral subluxation (spinal joint dysfunction) can interfere with the nervous system and result in many conditions of diminished health. Doctors of chiropractic use numerous manual (hands on) techniques to "adjust" the area of a vertebral subluxation/dysfunction. This is done to correct the mechanics of a specific joint by restoring proper MOTION, thereby reducing irritation to spinal nerves and restoring the body's ability to function normally. Chiropractors are the preferred health care professional to diagnose, treat, and prevent abnormalities involved in the NMS system. It is our job to find the CAUSE that is creating unwanted SYMPTOMS.
